The Arkwright Wing

The Arkwright Wing stands adjacent to the castle, providing the opportunity for an informal prelude to your wedding day. Here, history meets hospitality with a former brewhouse (one of the county’s oldest) now serving as a characterful bar, complemented by a dedicated dining room and games space. The evening unfolds at your pace, whether that means wood-fired pizzas and board games or bistro dining and live music. All connected by the Arkwright Courtyard, where conversation flows easily between indoor and outdoor spaces. This setting allows you to spend valuable, unhurried moments with your inner circle before the wider celebrations begin.

An unforgettable celebration  |  Aline & Filipi After the celebration, we were able to stay overnight with friends and family, and the rooms were incredible. It was an unforgettable day—by far the best of our lives. Without a doubt, we plan to celebrate our anniversaries here for years to come.

The Arkwright Family

The wing is named in honour of the Arkwright family stewardship of the Castle, a chapter which began in the early 19th century when Richard Arkwright, heir to an industrial fortune, acquired the estate. His son John who left the most visible mark, commissioning extensive renovations throughout the 1830s and 1840s. These transformations, while displaying the family’s considerable means, significantly altered the castle’s medieval character.

John’s growing family influenced many architectural decisions, while his descendant Johnny later expanded the estate’s boundaries. After nearly a century of stewardship, the Arkwright era concluded in 1912 when the Castle changed hands again.
